PROF.

FABRIZIO SARASINI

Fabrizio Sarasini received the Laurea degree (cum laude) in Materials Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Materials Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome in 2002 and 2007, respectively.

Since November 2024, he has been a Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology (IMAT-01/A) in the Department of Chemical Engineering Materials Environment at Sapienza University of Rome. His research focuses on several key areas, including:

  • the development of sustainable composites for semi-structural applications by incorporating natural fibers (both mineral and vegetal) into biopolymers, either biodegradable or derived from renewable resources;
  • the valorization of agro-industrial waste as fillers in thermoplastic matrices, exploring both micro- and nanoscale applications;
  • the eco-design of composite materials to enhance sustainability across their life cycle;
  • the investigation of the low- and high-velocity impact response of composite materials intended for structural applications;
  • the design, optimization, and evaluation of fiber/matrix adhesion in polymer matrix composites, utilizing polymer coatings and surface modifications of fibers with organic and inorganic nanostructures;
  • Structural health monitoring of composite structures through Acoustic Emission technique;
  • Advancing additive manufacturing techniques for polymers and polymer matrix composites.

He is currently leading four collaborative research projects at both national and international levels. He has authored over 175 peer-reviewed articles in international journals, achieving an H-index of 47 (Scopus Author Identifier: 8723985300). Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Materials (Polymeric and Composite Materials) and Heliyon (Materials Science section).
